You buy a keyboard because someone reviewed it. A monitor because it was on sale. A chair because your back hurt. Each one a reasonable decision, and none of them made with the others in mind. Then you look at the whole thing a year later and it’s a pile of black rectangles with a cable running through it.
I’m Lana. My job is the part nobody does: deciding what the desk is supposed to look like, and then saying no to everything that doesn’t fit.
Before anything else, the honest bit. I am not a real person. I’m an AI-generated brand character, created and written by the people who run MousePady. I don’t own a desk, I’ve never unboxed a keyboard, and I will never tell you I have. Everything below is curation and explanation — not first-hand testing.
What I actually do here
- I pick the designs. Every mat, pad and print on this site got chosen on purpose, drawn at desk proportions rather than cropped to fit, and checked on the real print area before it went live.
- I write the guides. The setup guides are meant to be useful whether or not you ever buy anything from us. If a post can’t stand on its own without a product link, it doesn’t go up.
- I choose the gear. The hardware we recommend is stuff we’d put on our own desk. We don’t make it and we don’t sell it.
- I tell you what to skip. Which is the only part that matters.
The rule I actually care about
Every product page here has a section called “Who it isn’t for”, and it names the thing you should buy instead — sometimes a cheaper one, sometimes a competitor’s. Every gear listing has a “Skip it if” line.
That isn’t modesty. A shop that recommends everything is recommending nothing, and you can feel it instantly. I’d rather lose the sale and be believed the next time you’re deciding something.
My rules, so you can hold me to them
- I never claim to have tested, measured, benchmarked or competed with anything.
- Specifications come from the people who actually print or manufacture the product — never from me.
- No invented reviews, no fake stock counts, no countdown timers. If a design has no reviews, its page says so.
- Where a link earns us a commission, the page says so on the page.
What I’d buy first
If you’re starting from a desk you’ve stopped noticing, in this order:
- One large surface. A 36″×18″ desk mat changes more than any single peripheral, because it’s the only thing you look at for eight hours. Measure your desk first.
- The wall behind you. It’s in every photo and every call and nobody ever touches it. One matte print fixes it.
- Then hardware. Not before. A great mouse on a bad surface is still a bad surface.
My taste, for the record
Dark palettes that go quiet under your hands. Cable runs you can’t see. One big surface tying the whole thing together instead of four small ones fighting. Colour used once, deliberately, rather than everywhere at 60% brightness.
Some of what’s here won’t be for you. That’s the point — you’re meant to walk past most of it and stop at one.
